Advanced Survival Skills

Advanced Survival Skills (FKA:Big Bear: Advanced)

This camp is designed for students who have previously attended Survival Summer CampBig Bear Village and are interested in developing their survival skills further. Advanced Survival Skills will give students the opportunity to put many of their outdoor skills into practice in a more realistic setting. The program will include a mixture of refining and practicing basic survival skills while introducing many new crafts and skills that are useful for survival and long term earth living. This camp will also have a strong focus on caretaking when harvesting.

Summer camp survival skillsAdvanced Survival Skills is a challenging and demanding program. Students should come prepared to spend 3-4 nights in a shelter of their own construction, sometimes without a sleeping bag. To be successful in this camp you will need to focus on developing and improving your skills. After you have created your own coal-burned wooden bowl you will be required to use it during meal times. Campers will be required to use a bowdrill (or other friction fire method) to light all fires during camp. You should expect to spend much of your week living in a “primitive” camping situation. You may be surprised to discover that living primitively can be the most rewarding experience you’ve ever had.

Just like at Big Bear Village, meals are provided from our kitchen. All meals have an emphasis on locally sourced, organic, and wholesome foods. Some meals will be served in main camp. Many meals will be served at primitive camp.

Primitive Skills Summer CampThe skills taught in this program will vary but are likely to include advanced instruction and dirt time on many of the following: survival shelters, primitive fire making, coal burning, advanced throwing sticks, primitive traps, stone tools, primitive cooking, basketry, and advanced intuition skills. Students should come prepared to spend a good amount of time away from the central camp and out in the forest practicing skills with your group.
